Background

The Indonesian Government's Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi, or BPPT) has established the need for an atmospheric water resource program to provide extra water for hydroelectric power near the PT-INCO nickel mining and processing operations located on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia.

As part of BPPT's program development, WMI has been contracted to provide airborne cloud seeding operations over the catchments of Lakes Matano, Mahalona, and Towuti in South Sulawesi. The contract period for this initial project runs from March 1, 2005 to May 31, 2005. A research component will be included during parts of April and May, with assistance from scientific personnel from NCAR (the National Center for Atmospheric Research) of the US.
